The Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation, in conjunction with the Greater Des Moines Partnership's DM/DC trip and Iowa's Congressional delegation, donated 9,000 toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss to the Iowa Head Start Assocation. Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Inc. will receive a portion of the donation.

Culver: Iowa Moving Forward on Energy Efficiency and Green Collar Jobs Nearly 2,200 homes weatherized and almost 300 new jobs created DES MOINES –Governor Chet Culver joined with the U.S. Department of Energy today to announce that Iowa has reached a significant milestone under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – completing weatherization work for more than 30 percent of the homes the state had planned to weatherize. As of June 30, 2010, Iowa has weatherized 2,179 homes with Recovery Act funding, plus more than 1,300 additional homes with annual program funding. And according to the state, an additional 275 jobs were created by state and local weatherization providers. As a result of the progress in the program to date, the state will now have access to an additional $40.4 million in Recovery Act weatherization funding to continue providing energy efficiency services to Iowa’s low-income families.

ICAA Launches New Web & Marketing Program

Iowa Community Action Association (ICAA) has launched a new website and marketing program in association with its member agencies and partners across the state at www.IowaCommunityAction.org that offers a wide range of features, tools and resources for Iowa Community Action Agencies to better serve and communicate with its local audiences. Visitors can learn about each of the member agencies across the state, explore news & events, learn about and apply for available programs and services, access reports and statistics, apply for job opportunities, view photo galleries, watch streaming videos, donate to local agencies, explore volunteer opportunities, sign up for the ICAA email newsletter, join social media initiatives, and more. The interactive agency map and navigation menus allow visitors to easily find their local agency and community resources, and browse the entire site based on the local agency or community selected.

ICAA Speaks Out on Economic Stimulus

“The question is not whether we can afford to act,” Lana Ross, Director of the Association of Community Action Agencies, stated. “It is whether we can afford not to act. Without strong attention to the needs of struggling families within the economic stimulus package, Iowa is likely to fall into a deeper recession and the futures of Iowa’s children will be much less bright.” ICAA staff participated with other children advocates at a press conference held Monday December 15th at the Iowa State Capitol.
