Siouxland Principal receives Child at Heart Award

Child Care Resource & Referral congratulates Ellen Pickhinke, Principal at Schaller-Crestland School for receiving the Early Childhood Iowa 2012 Child at Heart Award.

Pickhinke was nominated for the annual award by Superintendent of Schaller-Crestland and Galva –
Holstein Community School District David Kwikkel.

In four years, Pickhinke implemented a total new newborn to Kindergarten program at Schaller-Crestland Day Care Center, located within the elementary school.

She secured funding through grants for a new playground system, implemented a new summer nutrition program and requested and received home style seating for young children in the lunch room areas.

Pickhinke has put together a program that is among the highest rated in the area by Iowa’s Quality Rating System (QRS).

In addition to her exceptional work for the Schaller-Crestland Day Care Center, Pickhinke is also a mother of two early childhood age kids, is a principal for an elementary and middle school and is working on another education degree.

Pickhinke was presented the Child at Heart Award at the 18th Annual Early Childhood Iowa Stakeholders Meeting on Wednesday, February 8th. This award cannot describe the outstanding efforts Pickhinke has made to her community.

Child Care Resource and Referral is proud to work with exceptional people like Pickhinke to give our children quality child care.
