Family Development & Self-Sufficiency

FaDSS is a voluntary program providing in-home support to families to gain independence from public assistance.

A certified FaDSS Specialist meets once a month with families receiving assistance from the State of Iowa Family Investment Program (FIP) to:

  • Envision a better future
  • Identify family strengths
  • Identify goals and develop a plan to reach them
  • Strengthen parenting skills
  • Deal with family challenges and issues
  • Overcome social and financial barriers
  • Become independent of FIP
  • Celebrate success

FaDSS is designed to:

  • Increase self-advocacy
  • Empower families to remain self-sufficient
  • Build on family strengths
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Promote education
  • Encourage career planning
  • Enhance job skills
  • Secure affordable housing
  • Offer referrals to community resources
  • Provide encouragement and support
