Health
MICA places a strong emphasis on the health and nutrition of both children and adults in our core counties. Our health services cover a wide range of individuals, including expecting mothers, third and seventh grade children, HIV-infected individuals, and infants.
MICA's primary concern is that everyone who needs health assistance is able to find it out through our services. We work closely with uninsured parents to make sure they aware that their children may qualify for hawk-i health insurance. Through our School Sealant Program and I-Smile, we make sure that children receive dental checkups on a regular basis and are able to find a local dentist they can visit for proper dental care. The same is true for adults with MICA's Story County Dental Clinic, which provides dental services to Medicaid-insured or uninsured individuals.
We also reach out to provide services to those who need them, but have a hard time affording it. Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a program that provides expecting mothers with advice and education, helping them through the course of their pregnancy. WIC also works closely with new mothers and their children, making sure they are maintaing a healthy diet. MICA also administers the Living with HIV program, which is designed to help HIV-infected individuals with many of the high costs associated with treating the devastating virus.
MICA's health programs offer a wide range of services for an even wider range of people, but the goal is always to provide low-income families with the health services they need, so they can continue to strive to create a better life for themselves and their children.
Our health programs provide:
- food assistance
- prenatal health care
- post-partum care
- immunizations
- health screenings
- basic dental care
- information on health insurance options
- assistance in locating a medical home
- HIV and AIDS support service
- education on nutrition, breastfeeding, and other health topics
